JLPT N3: につれて
につれて is used when saying something like "as X changes, Y also changes (in proportion to X)."
For example, "as the sophistication of this technology increases, the price of it decreases," or "as the city becomes more crowded, rents continue to rise."
Let's look at our first example:
時が経つにつれて、失恋の傷が癒えてきた。
とき が たつ につれて、 しつれん の きず が いえて きた。
As time passed, the pain of my broken heart began to heal.
Literally: “time + が + pass (time) + につれて, + broken heart / unrequited love + の + wound + が + recover / heal (and) + came.”
X = time
Y = the pain [wound] of my broken heart
→ As time passed, the pain of my broken heart began to heal.
It is worth noting that some kind of change must be expressed in both of the phrases before (1) and after (2) につれて.
In our last example, we had (1) the verb 経つ (たつ // to pass [of time]; to elapse) and (2) the ～てくる (come to be) ending attached to the verb 癒える (いえる // to recover; to be healed). That is, we are talking about changes in both halves of the sentence.
It sounds strange when we don't have a change being expressed in both halves of our sentence:
✕ 山頂に近づくにつれて、空気が薄い。
✕ さんちょう に ちかづく につれて、 くうき が うすい。
✕ As we've gotten closer to the summit, the air is thin.
✕ Literally: “summit + に + draw near + につれて, + air + が + thin.”
Just 薄かった (うすかった // was thin) does not express a change of any kind. Instead, we would need to say something like:
〇 山頂に近づくにつれて、空気が薄くなってきた。
〇 さんちょう に ちかづく につれて、 くうき が うすく なって きた。
〇 As we've gotten closer to the summit, the air has gotten thinner.
〇 Literally: “summit + に + draw near + につれて, + air + が + thin + become (and) + came.”
Similarly, it would sound strange to use につれて with a command, request, invitation, suggestion, etc.

V る ＋ につれて
But it is also possible to put a する-NOUN (i.e. a noun that can attach to する / expresses an action) before につれて：
する-NOUN ＋ につれて
Here's an example of the latter:
失業率の上昇につれ、若者の将来への不安は増しているようだ。
しつぎょうりつ の じょうしょう につれ、 わかもの の しょうらい へ の ふあん は ましている ようだ。
As the unemployment rate increases, it seems that worries about the future of young people are increasing as well.
Literally: “unemployment rate + の + increase + につれ, + young people + の + future + へ + の + anxiety / insecurity + は + is increasing + it seems (=ようだ).”
Note: The て has been dropped from につれて.

Let's finish by looking at a couple more examples:
物語が終わりに近づくにつれて、色々な謎が解けてきた。
ものがたり が おわり に ちかづく につれて、 いろいろな なぞ が とけて きた。
As the story comes to an end, a lot of the mysteries are unraveling [have unraveled].
Literally: “story + が + finish + に + draw near + につれて, + various + mystery + が + are solved (and) + came.”
年をとるにつれて、１年がとても早く感じるようになりました。
とし を とる につれて、 いちねん が とても はやく かんじる ように なりました。
As I got older, I started to feel that a year goes by very quickly.
Literally: “get older (=year + を + take) + につれて, + one year + が + very + fast + feel + ように + became.”
