一触即発（いっしょくそくはつ // touch and go; extremely delicate [tense]）
Although we don't normally do this in our 四字熟語 (よじじゅくご // four-character compound word) lessons, I think it would help to start out with a Japanese definition of 一触即発：
ちょっと触れればすぐに爆発しそうなこと。危機に直面していること。
ちょっと ふれれば すぐ に ばくはつ しそうな こと。 きき に ちょくめん している こと。
seeming like it will explode if touched even a little bit; being confronted with a crisis
Literally: “a little bit + if (you) touch (it) + right away + に + explosion + looking like (it) will do + thing. + crisis + に + confrontation / encounter + is doing + thing.”
